In-visits Play Area

Visiting a parent in prison is bound to be a strange and some times frightening experience. Our aim is to make that experience a little easier by giving visiting children the opportunity to play particularly during a visit. This can be highly beneficial and a good way of coping with a very difficult situation.

Many visitors say that the play area is much needed and welcomed as many have visited other prisons with no play area. There is always a noticeable difference in the children’s behaviour when the play area is open.

The play area has had yet another good year and there have been a lot of activities going on – a Christmas colouring competition and an egg colouring competition for Easter.

There have been 529 children who have used the play area over the past year, many only visit once but some visit regularly.

Visitors always give positive feedback and many say how much it is missed when it is not open.

All volunteers have to be CRB and security checked which takes time. It is hopeful that we will have more volunteers next year.
