A Brief History Of Voluntary Action For Oadby & Wigston

Voluntary Action for Oadby & Wigston has been providing a service within the community since 1986. It was previously known as Wigston & District Volunteer Bureau, Oadby Wigston & District Volunteer Bureau, Oadby & Wigston Volunteer Bureau, and TOPS (The Old Potting Shed) a centre for Development and Volunteering in Oadby & Wigston District before becoming Voluntary Action for Oadby & Wigston in October 2000.
Our organisation is a charity in its own right and is led by a Management Committee.
Presently the VAOW Management Committee consists of 6 Trustees. We also have 3 statutory members attending our meetings from Leicestershire County Council, the Health Authority, and Oadby & Wigston Council. All our Trustees have to be nominated and elected by our members who consist of volunteers, groups, and organisations from within the Borough of Oadby & Wigston. To be a Trustee requires time, understanding, and effort. It also carries legal responsibilities and duties. The Trustees are responsible for controlling the management and administration of Voluntary Action for Oadby & Wigston as a charitable organisation.
Management Committee Meetings are held once a month usually on a Monday morning starting at 9.00 am.
